Poison is a game we invented one summer, about 1962. It's a combination of basketball, dodgeball and hide-and-go-seek. It was played on the highly irregular court in the driveway, with cars, all manner of obstructions.

just a few of the rules i can remember. i am sure i have left some out and mangled others. no one ever wrote them down, and it was continually evolving. no one else has ever played it, and we have not played it in 40 years.

1. Shoot a basket . If you make it you must catch the ball before it bounces twice, and you must say "run" or "stay" before you touch it. If you miss the next guy must catch it before it bounces twice. You can slam it instead of trying to make a shot.

2. If you say "run" you must say how many brothers you are going to hit with the ball, like dodgeball.

3. The other brothers have to try to touch "home" without getting hit. If they do you are out, if you hit them, they are out. Last one standing wins.

4. If you throw at them and miss, then they run in.

5. If you say Stay, then you can slam the ball against the backboard and the other brothers must catch it before it bounces twice. The dynamic: no one wants to be near you in case you say run, but they need to be close in case you slam it.

A game by kids to whom it was often said, "go outside and play, don't come home till suppertime".

A few months ago, I printed an entire batch of badges for London Web Standards on the wrong side of the sticky paper.

I was convinced that I had printed them on the right side. The night before I printed out a test sheet, checked and double checked, but I still managed to get it wrong. I felt like a complete idiot.

Tonight, I printed out badgs with new label sheets.

The photo shows the backs of label sheets from Ryman (on the left) and Staples (on the right). Can you guess which one I got wrong?

Staples make it absolutely clear which side is the back of the sheet. Such a simple thing, and yet I wonder how often it's done. Joanne reports she had a similar problem recently with T-shirt transfer paper.
